Carmen Lucia Lincoln is a Mexican artist based in the Miní Sóta Makhóčhe lands since 2019 and joined Ananya Dance Theatre in January 2023 as an artist company member. Meli holds a Master’s in Tourism Management from Colorado State University. For over two decades she has combined her work in tourism with her dance career committed to the creation of dance work promoting preservation and access of cultural activities that empower the local communities. Her dance research started in 2002 focused on contempo-modern, Cuban-afro-modern, jazz, Mayan Prehispanic, and now Yorchhā. Meli explores movement through the connection between the emotional – physical body, honoring the voice of all her women’s ancestors’ lineage echoing this voice to create staging that invites reflection on the problems that women and immigrants face in today’s life, seeking strengthening of the sense of belonging within the community and the world. Meli is also the co-founder of Dance Projects by ME, founder of Terra Matter Experiences and Xchange Coordinator for Zenon Dance School.
Nancy Julia Hicks is an non-binary installation and performance artist, printmaker, educator, and poet. They are a recent graduate of the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and are currently based out of Minneapolis, MN. They’ve exhibited work in group and solo shows on MCAD’s campus, including I want to live under you (solo, 2018) and A Pressing Matter (group, 2017) and off campus at The Soap Factory (3×5 residency, 2016), Highpoint Center for Printmaking (2019), and other locations. Their work currently investigates and negotiates familial histories, white supremacy, and their own body. Most recently they collaborated with Erika Martin to create build/capture 1823-2019 (CollabArts Vol.2, 2019, eARThing Productions 2020, DanceBARN Film Festival 2020)
